Hard chromium plating is a hard chromium plating process. It is to coat a thick chromium coating on the surface of various substrates, and its thickness is generally 20 μ M above, the properties of chromium are used to improve the hardness, wear resistance, temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and other properties of parts. Chromium is a kind of silvery white metal with slight blue. Metal chromium is very easy to passivate in the air, and a very thin passivation film is formed on the surface, which shows the properties of precious metals. Generally, chromium has stable chemical properties and does not react with most organic acids, sulfides and alkalis. Therefore, chromium plating can prevent corrosion, improve wear resistance and serve as a protective layer. The chromium plating process includes five basic stages:

The first stage is grease removal. Use chemicals to remove grease on the metal surface to ensure that there are no components on the surface that affect electroplating.

The second stage is cleaning. Thoroughly cleaning the surface helps to remove dirt and residues, such as tiny dust particles.

In the third stage, the underlying (plated) metal needs to be treated to ensure that the metal surface is as smooth as possible, so as to ensure that the coating maintains a high integrity for a long time. Common methods include copper plating, nickel plating and chrome hanging.

In the fourth stage, put the metal into the container containing the pretreatment solution, and let it gradually rise to the appropriate temperature to start chrome plating.

The fifth and final stage is the beginning of the electroplating process. The solution in the container is a mixed solution of chromium containing compounds and allows the compounds to etch to the metal surface (through electrochemical reaction). The coating thickness depends on the time the metal stays in the container.
