Generally speaking, it is recommended to use laser cutting on cutting carbon steel plates within 20mm, stainless steel plates and non-metallic materials such as acrylic and wood boards within 10mm. The steel plates within 20-50mm are recommended for plasma cutting, and the thicker steel plates are cut by flame-cut. Use waterjet to cut high-reflection materials:copper, aluminum and fragile non-metallic materials such as glass and marble. Manufacturers of chassis cabinets within 1mm use CNC punching machines in large quantities and relatively single sheet metal processing, and then assist with other cutting way to carry out the cutting process.


First of all, the traditional laser cutting machine,as the mainstream in sheet metal processing industry, uses CO2 laser, which can stably cut carbon steel within 20mm, stainless steel within 10mm, and aluminum alloy below 8mm. Secondly, the fiber laser has obvious advantages when cutting thin plates within 4mm.Quality is poor by the effect of the solid laser wavelength when cutting thick plates. Laser cutting machines in sheet metal processing are not omnipotent. The wavelength of CO2 lasers is 10.6um. The wavelength of solid-state lasers such as YAG or fiber lasers is 1.06um. The former is easy to be absorbed by non-metals. It can cut wood, acrylic, PP and plexiglass with high quality. The latter is not easily absorbed by non-metals, so it is impossible to cut non-metallic materials. Above two cannot be used to cut high-reflection materials such as copper, silver, and pure aluminum.


With the rapid development of laser technology and the increasing use of consumer technology in sheet metal processing, laser cutting as a fine cutting equipment is quietly replacing traditional punching and shearing equipment.

In addition to thinking about the maximum size, material, maximum thickness of the required cutting and the size of the original material, more needs are considered in the future direction, for example, The maximum workpiece size to be processed after the technical modification, and the material information provided by the steel market, which is the most suitable for workpiece size, the loading and unloading time, and so on. The laser cutting machine is a modern equipment with high input and high output in sheet metal processing industry.
